FAQs

What are Claude Elementary School's colors and mascot?

Claude students are Mustangs! Our school colors are red and royal blue.

What should I do if my student is absent?

We’re concerned for your students when we don’t see them. If you know your child is going to be absent, or stay home sick from school, please call us at (806) 226-3522. Parents, when your children are healthy, please send them back to school with an absence slip explaining why they were gone. The note has to be received within 72 hours or 3 days from the absence. A phone call will not count for a note. An absence note is a must! Otherwise, we record your student's absence as "unexcused."

Does Claude Elementary provide bussing?

Yes, we do. Please remind students that riding the bus is a privilege and we only tolerate their best behavior. This is for the safety of everyone. Offenses may cost you the privilege of riding to school.

Please don’t do the following while riding the bus:

  • stand while the bus is in motion
  • engage in disruptive behavior
  • use unacceptable language
  • throw objects in or out of the bus

What meals do you provide at school?

All children are welcome to eat both breakfast and lunch at school. Reduced price meals are available for those who need it. If you believe you qualify for reduced price meals, please visit the main office for the forms you’ll need to fill out.

Where is the lost and found?

Please check the main office for any items you’ve lost. Parents, it’s helpful to take a permanent marker and write your student’s name on the tags of jackets, lunchboxes, or anything else you can write the child’s name on.

What shouldn't my child bring to school or class?

Please do not bring electronics to school. Claude Elementary is not responsible for items that are lost. We also insist that students do not use cell phones. Texting is disruptive to learning inside the classroom. If a student needs to make a phone call, please arrange with the teacher first and follow his/her directions for when and where to place the call.

My child needs to take medication daily. How will you make sure he/she will receive it?

Please label all prescription medications and keep them in the health office. Only our school nurse will hand out the medicine to a student and the medicine must be in the original container. Prescription drugs must be prescribed by a doctor and have documentation telling how much and how often the student must take the medicine. Please be sure to contact the health office ahead of time if you want your child taking over-the-counter medicines, too. These also require documentation.
